The Davy Knot

I’ve been tying my fly on my tippet using the Improved Cinch Knot for over 50 years.  My dad showed it to me when we were fishing the Klamath River, just as it comes into California.  Our annual trip was Memorial Day Weekend, the weekend the Salmon Flies and the Stone Flies hatched on the river, down Topsy Grade.

It was a nasty trip down Topsy Grade to the river, but once you were there, time stopped.  It seemed more like 1865 than 1965.  You could go a whole week not seeing another person, that was not from your camp.

But, back to the knot.

It’s easy to get into rut; you can’t teach an old dog new tricks; if it works, don’t fix it.

All well and good until I was shown the Davy Knot.

Did you ever wonder how guides can tie on a fly so fast?  The Davy Knot.

Did you ever wish the Improved Cinch Knot did not look as big as your size 22 fly? The Davy Knot.

Did you ever wish your tippett would last more than 3 or 4 fly changes?  The Davy Knot.

Its simple.

Its quick.

Its strong.

And then there’s the Double Davy.

Rather than explain it here, I am going to post a link to a Youtube video.

Watch it. Learn it. Enjoy it.
